Objective: Students should be able to define what energy is.
What is energy?
By clicking on What is Energy and the top of this page it will explain where Energy comes from and in all the different forms. It comes in forms such as light, heat, motion, electric, chemical, gravitational and many others (Energy Basics). Another video also named What is Energy will demonstrate that energy is something we use everyday without even noticing; we need it to survive. There are different types of energy such as renewable (an energy source that can be easily replenished) and nonrenewable (an energy source that cannot be easily recreated)(Energy Basics). Both of these have major impacts on there world. Today we are trying to to have less nonrenewable energy and more renewable energy.
For day ones lesson start by watching the video What is Energy Really?. Then after the video has talked about what energy is have the students discuss their ideas of what energy means to them. Have them start writing their ideas down on their own and then have then get into groups and share. Have them compare their ideas within the groups and have them come up their own definition of what energy means. Then, one group at a time, have them tell their definition out loud so the class can all hear each others ideas. By having the students come up with their own definition it will allow them to get a good idea based of their prior knowledge.
